The Regina Ladies Softball Association tournament begins today and finishes Sunday at Douglas Park. Nineteen teams from Saskatchewan and one from Winnipeg will be divided into four pools. Sydney Marquardt of Regina was named a third-team all-American. The honour was given by the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association. Marquardt, who plays with the St. Thomas Tommies women’s softball team, batted .471 this season with 73 hits and 56 RBI in 48 games. The Tommies went 42-6 and were the NCAA region runner up. The University of Regina Cougars women’s softball club, playing in the Alberta Intercollegiate Women’s Fastball Association, held their awards banquet last night. After three playoff games, the Regina Gold were elminiated from the Easton Foundation Youth World Softball Cup in Plant City, Floriday. The Gold played three games on Monday, winning one and losing two. They first lost 5-0 to Brazil, getting no hits in the loss. The Regina Gold are participating in the Easton Foundation Youth World Softball Cup in Plant City, Florida. They went 2-3 in the round robin, and will play Brazil today in the playoffs. The Gold lost Friday, then on saturday first beat Russia 6-2 and then lost to the Colorado All-Stars 4-1.
