Michelle Englot wins Scotties
Regina’s Michelle Englot won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts this weekend, with a 9-7 win in the final over Stefanie Lawton of Saskatoon.
This is Englot’s seventh provincial win.
Englot, with her team of Lana Vey, Roberta Materi and Sarah Slywaka, will take part in the national Scotties event from February 18 to 26 in Red Deer.
Englot went 7-0 through the week leading up to the final.

Cougar swim team at Canada West Championships
Jan 28 – Carlos Quiroz highlighted Day 2 of the Canada West Swimming Championships for the University of Regina with a fourth-place finish in the 50-metre freestyle on Saturday.
Quiroz finished with a time of 23.50 seconds, good enough to score 15 team points and give the first-year swimmer his ticket to next month’s CIS Championships in Montreal. The men’s team also got a strong...
McMorris wins gold at X Games
Regina’s Mark McMorris won the Snowboard Big Air competition at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colarado, as he landed a backside triple cork mute 1440 in the finals, scoring 49 out of a possible 50 points.
The winner is determined by a combination of the riders’ two best tricks. McMorris also landed a frontside double cork mute 1080 in his first run.

McKibben, Slinn place fourth at Guelph Open
Three members of the University of Regina’s women’s wrestling team competed at the Guelph Open on Saturday in Guelph, Ont. Lisa McKibben (67 kg) and Jasmine Slinn (48 kg) both had fourth-place finishes for the Cougars.

Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers place third
The pair of Paige Lawrence from Kennedy and Rudi Swiegers of Kipling finished in third place at the Canadian figure skating championships this weekend in Moncton.
They finished with a score of 168.84, behind gold medalists of Ontario with 190.11 points and silver medalists from Quebec with 171.60 points. Lawrence and Swiegers will represent Canada in the pairs division at the ISU Four Continents figure...
