THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The University of Regina’s men’s wrestling team finished in second place and the Cougar women placed fifth as the 2012 CIS Championships wrapped up on Saturday at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ont.   The men’s team ended up with 52 points in the overall standings, finishing just two points behind Concordia to end up in second place at the CIS meet for the fourth time...

Lucas Makowsky and Justin Warsylewicz, both from Regina, took part in the World All-round Championships in Moscow this weekend. Makowsky was 16th overall in the men’s standing, after skating to ninth in the 500 m, 16th in the 1500 m, and 21st in the 5000 m. Warsylewicz was 19th overall in the men’s standings. Mark McMorris of Regina finished in ninth place in men’s slopestyle at the world snowboarding championships in Oslo, Norway. Regina’s Scott McGillivray clearly positioned himself as the top 16 & Under sprinter in Western Canada at the Speedo Western Canadian Championships in not one, but 2 events. McGillivray who was born and raised on the family farm outside of Regina and now resides in Calgary, had one of his strongest weekend of swimming to date, setting personal best times in every event. While the podium was elusive to all but Chris Myers who finished 3rd in the 17 & Over 50 Breast, Coach Pineau was pleased with the effort and the results from this young team, who generated a number of personal best times throughout the weekend and finished in 10th position of 33 clubs represented. Reuben Ross of Pilot Butte have come closer to competing in the men’s three-metre synchronized diving event  at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Ross will dive with Alexandre Despatie; they earned one of four available berths at the FINA World Cup event in London.
