Lucas Makowsky and Justin Warsylewicz, both from Regina, took part in the World All-round Championships in Moscow this weekend. Makowsky was 16th overall in the men’s standing, after skating to ninth in the 500 m, 16th in the 1500 m, and 21st in the 5000 m. Warsylewicz was 19th overall in the men’s standings. Regina speed skaters are taking part in the Canadian long track single-distance speedskating championships in Calgary Thursday through Sunday. Jan. 5 – Lucas Makowsky was third in the men’s 1,500 m race. With a win in Calgary this weekend, Kali Christ of Regina has won the Canada Cup long track women’s speed skating tour. Christ won the 1,500 m with a time of one minute and 58.60 seconds this weekend at the Canada Cup 4 competition in Calgary. The time broke a Canadian junior record. Laurent Dubreuil (Lévis, QC) and Kali Christ (Calgary, AB) each won a medal for Canada today at the World Junior Championships in Seinajoki, Finland. Dubreuil won silver in the 500m event while Christ got the bronze medal of the 1500m race.
