Thirty five of the youngest RODS swimmers attended the “A Provincial Meet”held in Yorkton this past weekend. The RODS won the team title securing 502 points, a 175 points more than their closet competitor. This score represents 19 Gold, 29 Silver and 22 Bronze medals from 18 individual swimmers. Regina’s Scott McGillivray clearly positioned himself as the top 16 & Under sprinter in Western Canada at the Speedo Western Canadian Championships in not one, but 2 events. McGillivray who was born and raised on the family farm outside of Regina and now resides in Calgary, had one of his strongest weekend of swimming to date, setting personal best times in every event. Two Hundred and Ninety swimmers competed at the Regina Optimist Dolphin Winter Invitational this past weekend in Regina. There were lots of great races and many swimmers achieved best times over the 3 day competition. The head coach of the Regina Optimist Dolphins, Sylvain Pineau, has received the CSCTA Speedo Domestic Excellence Award. Each year the CSCTA and Speedo recognizes Canadian Coaches who lead their athletes to a Gold medal at various Domestic Championship competitions throughout the season. Eight swimmers from Saskatchewan are competing at the Paul Bergen Junior International Short Course Championships this weekend in Portland Oregon as Team Sask. It is a competition for swimmers aged 18 and under only. This is one of the High Performance events that Swim Sask offers each year. This past weekend, Cassandra Brassard led RODS team at the Canada Cup with a 7th place finish in 100 Back. This past weekend the Regina Optimist Dolphins Swim Club attended the Alberta Marlins Aquatic Club Meggitt Training Services Canada Invitational Swim Meet in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
