Campion Grads finish second

The Regina Campion Grads finished in second place in the provincial men’s Division 1 rugby championship after losing 20-18 to the Saskatoon Wild Oats on the weekend.
Ryan Anderson and Steve Wilson scored tries for the Grads while Kevin Harries had two converts and a penalty kick.

Canada at Rugby World Cup
Canada is playing in the Rugby World cup this week in Whangarei, New Zealand. Two Regina players – DTH van der Merwe and Scott Franklin – are on the roster.

Miranda Seifert and Team Canada third at Nations Cup
Miranda Seifert played with the under-20 women’s Canadian Rugby team at the Nations Cup in South Africa last week.
The team finished third, with a 32-5 win over South Africa on Sunday. Seifert had a try in the win. Canada’s overall record in the tournament was 2-2.

Dog River Howlers second at International Abbotsford Rugby 7s
The Dog River Howlers, with Robin McDowell and Peni Lutu of Regina, placed second at the International Abbotsford Rugby 7’s tournament this weekend. Six countires competed in the tournament.
The Howlers next compete at the Mexico Cancun 7s in November, then the Cuba Havana Howlers 7’s in December.

Regina rugby players named to under-18 Saskatchewan team
Hailey Beaudry, Gayle Castillo, Miranda Seifert, and Angel Thompson – all of Regina – will play with Saskatchewan at the under-18 Canadian championships, to be held August 15th to 20th in Calgary.
Beudry plays wing, Castillo plays scrum half/utility back, Seifert is a centre, and Thompson is a centre/fly half.

Regina rugby players named to Canadian team
DTH van der Merwe and Scott Franklin, both of Regina, will play with Canada’s team for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. van der Merwe and Franklin are two of 30 players on the team, and join Saskatoon rugby players Hubert Buydens and Nanyak Dala.
The Rugby World Cup takes place from September 9th to October 23rd in New Zealand.

Miranda Seifert to compete for Canadian rugby team
Miranda Seifert of Regina will play with the Canadian under-20 women’s rugby team in the 2011 Nations Cup Tour in Santa Barbara, California, in July. Seifert also played on the under-18 women’s rugby team that won the International Champagne Calssic in San Diego, California.

Honorary dog River Howler – Peter MacKay

OTTAWA, ON – Rugby Canada and the Dog River Howlers Rugby Club today launched a joint fundraising program to help Canada’s National Senior Men’s Team raise funds to offset their costs to participate in the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. The Dog River Howlers spearheaded a similar initiative in 2007 and successfully raised over $100,000.

Saskatchewan takes silver at national wheelchair rugby championship
Team Saskatchewan finished in second place in the Division II national rugby championship on the weekend. They lost 51-33 to the Ontario Lightning in Saskatoon.
